The GHA organizes academic, professional, and social activities to benefit the student body.
Dissertation Writers' Workshops
DWWs are an opportunitiy for post-qualification students to present a chapter as works-in-progress for feedback from a cross-section of the history community. The draft is circulated in advance, and the participant invites a faculty member and a graduate student to provide comments. The audience also has the opportunity to ask questions and make suggestions.
Graduate Research Series
The GRS is an opportunity for pre-qualification students to present their seminar papers in a conference-style format. Presenters read their papers before the audience and a commentator provides feedback that seeks connections between the work. The audience also has the opportunity to add comments.
The GHA organizes small workshops on topics ranging from applying for external grants to designing a course. These workshops draw on the experience of faculty members in the department.
To encourage collegiality among the graduate student body, the GHA also organizes casual social events at establishments in the St. Louis area.
